Celebrate Older Americans Month at the Senior Center’s Open House

The Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center will celebrate Older Americans Month by hosting the “Center Secrets” Open House on Thursday, May 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Community members of all ages are invited to come together and discover some secrets to aging well by exploring all The Center has to offer as a recreation and education center for adults age 50 and above. Guests will enjoy free pizza from Chomp Delivery, tours, activities, entertainment, and door prizes.

This is a public event and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. The Senior Center is located in the heart of Iowa City at 28 South Linn Street, and has parking via the attached skywalk to the Tower Place parking ramp. Two hours of parking validation will be available to Open House guests.

Each year, more and more older adults are making a positive impact in and around Iowa City. As volunteers, employees, employers, educators, mentors, advocates, and more, they offer insight and experience that benefit the entire community. Each May, Older Americans Month provides resources to help aging Americans stay healthy and independent, and resources to help communities support and celebrate their diversity.

This year’s Older Americans Month theme, Connect, Create, Contribute, encourages older adults and their communities to:

* Connect with friends, family, and local services and resources.

* Create through activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.

* Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.

The “Center Secrets” Open House is an opportunity to discover how you or your loved ones can continue to thrive in our community at any age. Stop by to explore The Center’s historic building and get a glimpse of the diverse classes, programs, and activities that are available. You'll find endless opportunities to stay active, curious, and connected. Membership and registration opportunities will be available on site, and donations to support The Center's mission through Friends of The Center will be accepted.
